Axiom is looking for an entry-level Project Accountant to join our team in Saskatoon, SK. This full-time role is stationed at our head office, with the successful candidate reporting to the Financial Controller. In this position, you will support the financial management of projects, focusing on maintaining accurate and compliant accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial management of projects assigned by the Head of Accounting and Finance includes but is not limited to project setup, maintenance, invoicing, and project closure.
- Provide excellent customer service and a customer-centric focus while providing a quality of work that consistently meets or exceeds expectations.
- Build strong relationships with and serve as a trusted advisor to our Project Managers (PM) and Exploration Managers (EM).
- To ensure collaborative teamwork, build and maintain relationships with other accountants within the accounting team, including the Accounting Clerk, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
- Independently organize and prioritize workload to ensure timely completion of deliverables. Escalate concerns/issues to the Head of Accounting and Finance as required.
- Implement process or procedural changes identified and rolled out by management or operations.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and Divisional Managers to recommend an appropriate work breakdown structure WBS, issue accurate and contractually compliant invoices, and perform other ad hoc functions as requested.
- Evaluate project setup and budget change documentation to ensure compliance with contractual requirements, internal controls and IFRS.
- Prepare internal and external audit support and respond to inquiries from the Leadership team and the Accounting/Finance Department.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field is preferred.
- 1-5 years of related experience
- Experience bookkeeping in a consulting company environment, an asset
- Understanding of project-based accounting is an asset
- Experience with Quickbooks is an asset.
- Experience with MIS systems is an asset but not required.
- Experience in interpreting and implementing new accounting standards (ESG, carbon protocols and involuntary/voluntary reporting standards) an asset but not required.
- Must be organized, willing to embrace change and have a strong attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving skills are required.
- General accounting knowledge obtained through experience and/or education.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to build and foster excellent working relationships.
- Ability to identify potential implications of actions to mitigate downstream financial impacts.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required.
- Ability to independently review contracts and understand the contract terms regarding project type, scope of work and invoicing terms.
