Reporting to the COO, the Senior Financial Controller is responsible for the financial management and accounting operations of Axiom Exploration Group. This role provides strategic financial leadership through budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, internal controls, and performance analysis, supporting informed decision-making across the organization.
As a key member of the leadership team, the Senior Financial Controller oversees the ongoing optimization of the company’s ERP platform, ensures compliance with applicable policies and regulatory requirements, and drives continuous improvement of financial systems, processes, and business performance.
Responsibilities:Â Â
Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting
- Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, general ledger, and project accounting activities.
- Prepare, analyze, and present accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, forecasts, and variance analysis.
- Support annual budgeting and financial planning processes while monitoring performance against organizational objectives.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and reporting practices to ensure accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.
- Lead year-end audit activities, including preparation of supporting documentation and coordination with external auditors.
Compliance, Controls & Risk Management
- Maintain effective internal controls, financial governance practices, and reporting standards to ensure the integrity of financial information.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, regulatory filings, and corporate policies.
- Evaluate and improve accounting systems, processes, and controls to strengthen efficiency and mitigate risk.
People Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team while supporting professional growth and fostering accountability.
- Partner with operational leaders and external financial partners to support business performance, resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement.
 Requirements: Â
Education & Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- CPA designation required.
Experience
- 5–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
- Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, internal controls, and business planning.
- Experience in a consulting, professional services, or project-based environment is considered an asset.
- Experience managing financial operations for a multi-department or distributed organization is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial statement preparation, and regulatory requirements.
- Advanced proficiency with accounting software, ERP systems, and financial technology platforms.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
